An annual event now 16 years strong this Christmas event kicks off the holiday season for many people. This year Monika Wall will be presenting songs from her ‘Handmaid of the Lord’ Christmas work as well as her powerful interpretation of ‘O Holy Night’. An evening not to be missed.
An evening of originals influenced by Roots, Blues and R&B featuring the new single ‘Let it Flow”. For the first time at the lovely Rachel Browne Theatre in Winnipeg’s famous Exchange District Monika will be joined by Dave Quanbury (guitar and vocals), Karl Kohut (bass), Owen Clark (drums) and Melanie Zebrynski (Back up vocals).Rosemary Todaschuk will begin the evening at 7:30pm with Monika Wall at 8:30pm June 24, 2017.
Monika Wall is heading out to Folk Alliance International next week and will be joined on guitar by Darwin Baker who is one of the infamous ‘Crooked Brothers’. Her performance in Acoustic Room #554 on Thursday night at 1:30am promises to be memorable. She will be performing songs from her upcoming album ‘Let It Flow'(currently being recorded with Juno award winning producer Murray Pulver). Included will be some crowd favourites – ‘Big Blue Waves’ performed with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra and some brand new reveals. Darwin Baker is promoting his own new solo effort at FAI as well. Monika Wall has performed in classical, jazz, folk, blues, musical theatre, gospel and pop. From Canada to the US to Europe her rich warm voice with a four octave range has been described as “the witch of the Bayou” when singing the blues and as “spine tingling” when soaring through a Puccini opera aria. Singing originals influenced by roots, blues and jazz from her upcoming album (with producer Murray Pulver).
‘Coast to coast’ – the Wpg. Jazz Orchestra will be featuring Canadian composers from across the country. Singer/songwriter Monika Wall along with Canadian composers/arrangers Brad Turner, Richard Gillis, Jeff Presslaff, William Carn and Joel Miller will be heard. Featured performers are singer Monika Wall and trumpeter Brad Turner. Shows begin at 2pm and 7:30pm
