Notes:‘Handmaid of the Lord’ is an original musical work written by Monika Wall in 2010. It tells the story of the nativity from the point of view of Mary. Musically it travels through many worlds including light classical, latin rhythms, swing and even a tango depending on the character speaking. A fresh new perspective on the beautiful age old story. This will put you in the spirit of Christmas.
Notes:Starting in January the Monika Wall Trio will be playing in the swanky new Arkadash Bistro and Lounge on the First Friday of every month. The first show is on Jan. 4 and we will start the year off on a positive note with Mediterranean cuisine, vintage cabaret and jazz standards. Be sure to say hello. We would love to meet you.
Notes:Mardi Jazz – Every Tuesday night, we welcome the great jazz artists from Winnipeg, Manitoba and the world!
We open at 7:30pm
Concert begins at 8:30pm.
Notes:By connecting the sounds of many cultures, Monika Wall has created her own jazz-based vintage cabaret music. An award-winning, international singer, her deep roots in the classics — from the lushness of Puccini to the charm of Porter — feed her music reminiscent of bygone eras.
Ranging from swampy old Southern blues/gospel to the glamour of Hollywood’s golden age and hinting at European influences, her voice spans several octaves while transitioning from jazz/blues to cabaret.
Monika will perform cabaret originals along with music of Marlene Dietrich, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. She will be accompanied by Richard Gillis (trumpet), Kevin Curtis (piano), Karl Kohut (bass) and Scott Senior (percussion).
Notes:Monika Wall sings ‘Vintage Voyage’- a journey through time and around the world. Original songs, reminiscent of old Hollywood, will take you from the Old South to an Italian wishing fountain to a Parisian Cafe to an exotic Eastern location. In addition she will pay tribute to some of the great songstresses of the past such as Ella Fitzgerald and Marlene Dietrich. She will be joined by Kevin Curtis, Richard Gillis (WJO director), Karl Kohut and Scott Senior.
Notes:Back to the Roots- a soundtrack of a life inspired by old films. Walk into Cinemateque and slip into the soundtrack of a life. Songs reminiscent of old hollywood take jazz singer and songwriter Monika Wall on a personal journey with originals that tell her story. Influences from jazz, roots and classical music all brought together in her cinematic songwriting style

The greatest story ever told, the story of Christmas, told from a fresh, new perspective. Mary, the mother of Jesus, tells her experience which changed the course of humanity.
Combining the classic story with the classical elegance of the angel Gabriel, the sassy swing of the wise men, the energy of latin rhythms of the celebrating shepherds and the simplicity of a folk tune in Mary’s lullaby, you will hear it, as if for the first time. From the struggle of a tango as Mary and Joseph seek shelter for the birth of Jesus to the heart wrenching “Vocalise of the mourning mothers” after the vengeful Herod murders the infants of Bethlehem, the characters come alive as living, breathing people. The crowning glory is a full choir representing the chorus of angels and the people of the earth.
Ticket sales this year will be in support of the Syrian Refugee Fund.
