Prairie born Monika Wall is an award winning singer and a songwriter whose music has led her down many winding roads. The warmth of roots/ pop and the power of gospel/blues are infused throughout her music and have led her from an African American gospel choir to majestic 1000 year old European cathedrals, country churches and concert halls. Drawing from a wide world her music has a cinematic quality. Her contagious and somehow familiar originals feel like a long lost friend that is able to reach the deepest caverns of your heart.
Her rare sound is a result of influences from classical to singer/songwriter beginning with studies at world renowned Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. where she cultivated her artistry as a singer. (M. M.) Her song writing, first inspired by three songs in the night that insisted on being heard, is known for its breadth of style and range. In 2016 she was honoured among an outstanding group of composers from across Canada presented by the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra.
Her new album ‘Earth’ (Fall 2018 Release) reflects the craftsmanship and heart of it’s maker. Her songs speak of grounding yourself and finding your place on this earth, noting the fleeting nature of the circle of life and remembering to love those around you while experiencing the joy of the journey. Etched into every truthful phrase is a search for living life well within the hustle of a world that seems to have lost its way.
