Monika Wall is heading out to Folk Alliance International next week and will be joined on guitar by Darwin Baker who is one of the infamous ‘Crooked Brothers’. Her performance in Acoustic Room #554 on Thursday night at 1:30am promises to be memorable. She will be performing songs from her upcoming album ‘Let It Flow'(currently being recorded with Juno award winning producer Murray Pulver). Included will be some crowd favourites – ‘Big Blue Waves’ performed with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra and some brand new reveals. Darwin Baker is promoting his own new solo effort at FAI as well. No word on whether the ‘Crooked Brothers’ have a sister …
Monika Wall has performed in classical, jazz, folk, blues, musical theatre, gospel and pop. From Canada to the US to Europe her rich warm voice with a four octave range has been described as “the witch of the Bayou” when singing the blues and as “spine tingling” when soaring through a Puccini opera aria. Singing originals influenced by roots, blues and jazz from her upcoming album (with producer Murray Pulver).
‘Coast to coast’ – the Wpg. Jazz Orchestra will be featuring Canadian composers from across the country. Singer/songwriter Monika Wall along with Canadian composers/arrangers Brad Turner, Richard Gillis, Jeff Presslaff, William Carn and Joel Miller will be heard.
